Stumble Forward: Failures are the First Steps to Success

Pasig City, May 28, 2019—The path towards a worthy goal is laden with obstacles. Life designs challenges to test a person’s strength and resilience and, mold them to become the best version of themselves.

However, there are times when problems or mistakes knock people down on the ground. Individuals pursuing an important goal may see big failures as unpassable roadblocks. For Joey Marcelo, CEO of Santé International Incorporated, hardships will always be a part of the journey, especially if one is walking towards their life’s purpose.

“Instead of giving up and settling for simpler objectives, we must realize that failures are a natural process in achieving goals. If they should stumble again, people must strive to always pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and continue onwards with new lessons learned,” said Marcelo.

Based on his experience as a young entrepreneur, and now a successful businessman and a triathlete, Marcelo believes that failure is an important aspect of success. Here are the reasons why:

Failures Contain Lessons

Reaching the pinnacle of success begins with that first step. Unfortunately, people let their fear of failure get in the way of progress. Waiting for the “right” moment to take that leap makes them miss out on key opportunities to advance.

Marcelo believes that failures bring critical lessons in a person’s life and are often specific to the unique journey they are on. Additionally, mistakes force people to be smarter about situations and make them more resilient.

"Take that step and expect that challenges are always around to target you. The days will be difficult, and there will be moments when moving forward is tiresome but, if you believe in yourself and your dreams, you will invent better methods to achieve your goals," he noted.

Failures are Essential for Growth

Pursuing your biggest goals will never be a simple feat. While spending hours to improve one’s skills is an important component to success, a dedicated individual must first experience mistakes while honing their craft to asses how much farther they need to grow.

According to Marcelo, mistakes bring out the traits needed to become an expert, such as perseverance and endurance. Failed attempts build resilience for anyone serious enough to become a master or professional in their chosen field. A seamless flow of positive experiences is a warning that a person is on the wrong track. Meanwhile, a path of purpose carries problems that consistently enhance a person’s potential.

Failures Lead to Success

Nothing worthwhile comes easy in life. The higher dreams are, the more effort is required to reach them. People prepare strategies to claim their goals but are often blindsided by the knocks of life. While it is important to heal, they should never dwell too long on mistakes, since errors have tendencies to weigh down on a person’s mind and spirit.

To counter these negative conditions, Marcelo says that people must adopt a growth mindset to find the necessary solutions to fix the problem. People should think back on the “big reason why,” a powerful motive that releases a surge of willpower to push through obstacles.

The stories of famous, successful people tell the numerous attempts they have made in the pursuit of their own goals, as well as the multiple mistakes along the way. Yet, they’ve shown grit and conquered challenges to reach their dreams.

Joey Marcelo is among these people, who found success after hurdling many challenges. He founded Santé International in 2007. The company is passionate about helping people to live healthy through the proven benefits of barley-based products. Due to the success of their brand, they experienced breakthrough sales that tripled their branches within a year. Alabang as growth corridor of luxury properties

The Botanika Nature Residences

Filigree boasts of upscale residential properties, all of which are value enhancers to the community where they are located. And what sets Filigree developments apart from others in the upscale market? This developer is all about a rarefied yet sustainable lifestyle, wherein you can live in the lap of luxury while staying cognizant of the environment around you.  Filigree is about attention to detail, exceptional craftsmanship, and world-class planning and design, with each project treated like a fine masterpiece and a livable work of art. Its developments are set in strategic locations—prime, progressive, central—but in quiet and secluded quarters for true cosmopolitan, genteel living where all is within easy reach.

Recent reports from the Knight Frank Prime International Residential Index say Manila’s luxury home market saw the most growth in the world, with increased land values for high-end residential developments. Also highlighted as the next hotspot is Alabang, where various major infrastructures are being developed, guaranteeing high profitability in the area. At the forefront of this unprecedented growth is Filigree, which has arguably established itself as the gold standard in luxury real estate developments.

Its projects are strategically located—all redefining luxury—with only the finest finishes, living spaces and amenities. And among these enviable locations is Filinvest City, Alabang, where land values have risen by as much as 300 percent in the last six years. Now home to the most discerning few in the metro, Filigree developments have outstanding property values and promise an impressive return on investment.

Take a look, for one, at its flagship project, the posh and green-oriented Botanika Nature Residences in Filinvest City, Alabang, which has seen a growing community for its first tower.

With its three-star Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE) rating for design from the Philippine Green Building Council, Botanika makes luxurious yet eco-conscious living possible. Thus, you reduce your carbon footprint, save more on energy, and ultimately contribute less to global warming.

Botanika’s progressive architectural design, executed by Architecture International and Leandro V. Locsin and Partners, as well as its first-class amenities and well-appointed, luxuriously spacious condominium units make it even more desirable. The property’s value has risen to an impressive 80 percent.
The Bristol at Parkway Place library

Bristol at Parkway Place, located at the power address of Corporate corner Parkway Avenues in Filinvest City, is now also ready for occupancy. The 40-story edifice with a notable architecture exemplifies the charming modern life. Astute investors have started to savor handsome returns and increasing property values of up to an astounding 30 percent. Bristol allows residents to live a life of ease, as everything is all within easy reach. The Bristol at Parkway Place sky lounge

Filigree does more than luxurious vertical developments. The Enclave Alabang is a 13-hectare exclusive, nature-inspired village in Metro South. The horizontal development has been selling fast since its launch, with only a few of the 218 lots still available. Residents will enjoy a higher standard in upscale village living—not to mention rising, by as much as 10 percent year on year, land values—owing to its prime location, world-class modern tropical design, verdant greenery and low-density masterplan. It is the result of the creative collaboration of H1 Architecture for the masterplan, Budji+Royal Architecture+Design for interior design, and AECOM for landscape architecture—all the best minds in their field, who have come together to create a community never before seen in local luxury real estate market. Aside from its distinct features, this remarkable project takes pride in a close-knit community, where residents will enjoy exclusivity while being in close proximity to urban centers like Filinvest City.

All these exceptional qualities are testaments to the brand’s unwavering commitment in delivering only the very best: from planning and construction, project development and property management to groundbreaking and final hand over. And as demand for luxury real estate in the country continues to rise, Filigree’s portfolio of unrivaled upscale developments is undoubtedly the best investment decision you can make.

Workbank invests in students, Filipino youth with platform for easy job hunting

Workbank, an online talent solutions platform, believes that finding the right job match can be exciting and rewarding. The youth or any Filipino looking for a new job should be encouraged when sifting through the lists of potential employers.

Workbank's investment with the youth comes also in the form of training with partners Grab and Zalora to arm them with additional employment skills. Recruiters not only look for degrees and diplomas but also skills that would benefit companies and organizations. The training sessions will give them an edge over other applicants in terms of competency and proficiency.

Upon signing up on Workbank, job hunters qualify for a P100-discount on a Grab ride when they use it going to the job interview. For a minimum spend of P1,500 on Zalora, new signees on Workbank get P300 off. For fresh graduates who are asked for a transcript of records and diploma, another Workbank partner, Papeles.ph will give 20% discount for document processing upon signing up.

The referral system works best for both the applicants and recruiters. It helps not only the referrer because they earn something extra that they can use in other job-hunting requirements but also the one being referred to because they also get closer to the right job fit. The more talents the more options for recruiters and the bigger is the possibility that they would employ the person they are looking for.

"Workbank continuously works to provide young people the resources to start and progress in the careers they aspire for," said Workbank Country Head Reggie Fernandes.

Workbank carried out an Intercept Survey in November to get an overview of what motivates the Filipino youth when looking for possible employment. The survey reveals that 33% of respondents, 19-24 years old, consider better pay as the main factor in accepting a job offer, while 32% said they would go for a job that would allow them enough flexibility to still work and do things that they love. The rest wants a job that offers them professional development.

Workbank, was introduced to the Philippines by Aventus Informatics, a tech company in India, in 2017 to invest in Filipinos and help them connect with the right job opportunities across the country. The online platform is designed to make information and resources easily accessible when deciding on what job to apply for.

According to the January 2018 Labor Force Survey by the Philippine Statistics Authority, 18 million of the 47 million employed workers in the country belong to the youth sector.

"Workbank continuously works to provide young people the resources to start and progress in the careers they aspire for," said Workbank Country Head Reggie Fernandes.

In utilizing technology, Workbank designed matching tools for job hunters and recruiters to find the right job for them. The time saved can be used for looking for other matches. This widens the job hunters’ opportunities and gives them more options. Workbank's complete recruitment tool allows recruiters to track their candidate from the beginning of the application to the hiring process.

"Our smart job matching tools not only connect you to the jobs that meet your qualifications but enable recruiters to find you and offer you better opportunities," shared Fernandes.

The top 10 referrers for the month receive Sodexo Premium Pass Gift Certificates. They also have a chance to win as much as P7,000 worth of GCs.

“Workbank believes that investing in talents by empowering them with resources to help them land the job they aspire for will encourage them more to look for their perfect fit and not settle for anything less,” said Fernandes. “Landing a job is harder, staying is the hardest so it is important that from the beginning, applicants have the option to compare potential employment and grab the ones that answer their reasons for applying.”

Five ways that you can embrace the green lifestyle

Climate change is a reality that none of us can ignore. In the race to save the planet from its adverse effects, all of us can do our part to ensure that we lessen our carbon footprint and live a sustainable lifestyle.

While the task at hand may seem daunting, companies like Philippine Geogreen, with its line up of innovative solutions, make greener living within reach for homes and businesses.

1. Turn air into water
Believe it or not, you can actually get water out of the air, thanks to the Philippines’  hot and humid weather. Geogreen’s atmospheric water generator (AWG), water is extracted from humid ambient air, literally allowing you to create water out of thin air. Water vapor in the air is condensed by cooling the air below its dew point, extracting water in the process.  This device is designed to render the water potable with multiple stages of filtration, making it safe for home, commercial, and industrial use. It even allows you to bring down your water cost.

2. Choose energy efficient fans
To survive the Philippines’ hot weather, we all need electric fans. However, not all fans are created equal. Philippine Geogreen combines energy efficiency and aesthetics in its Haiku Fan. The Haiku fan is small ceiling fan made with an award-winning motor and controls that deliver a silent operation without compromising comfort. It generates a cooling effect that is  80% more efficient than conventional ceiling fan motors. Haiku’s airfoils and central motor housing blend together into a single, seamless organic form, beautifully wrapped in a sleek, modern package.  Moreover, all Haiku fans exceed ENERGY STAR registered requirements for ceiling fans from 2012-2018, making it the most energy efficient ceiling fan available in the Philippine market.

3. Maximize natural light
Nothing can be more beautiful and energy-efficient than having natural light illuminating your home. To ensure that you can get sunlight into your home, get the Solatube Daylighting Systems. This brilliant system is especially engineered to capture the sun’s rays creating brighter and more expansive rooms. The Solatube can be installed in as little as two hours and requires no structural changes to the building.

4. Keep the air clean using the power of light
Believe it or not, you don’t need air purifiers or vacuums to clean the air. An innovative  solution by Philippine Geogreen allows your walls to clean the air! LumActiv is a paint coating that has the capacity to clean the air once it gets activated by either sunlight or electric light. It can also keep building exteriors clean by breaking down city smog and makes the exterior glass cleaner for a long period of time, thereby reducing the need for repainting and maintenance.
5. Stop dredging
In maintaining beaches and coastlines, there is no need to practice dredging or purchasing new sand. Geogreen offers their groundbreaking product, Shorelock, a technology that protects and restores coastlines in a sustainable manner.

“Philippine Geogreen is determined to help more Filipinos embrace a sustainable lifestyle, whether in their own homes or in their businesses. This is why we have brought in many innovative solutions to the country.  Over the past ten years, we have helped thousands of Filipinos discover sustainable and cutting edge solutions,  and we would like to make this widely available to all. Our goal is to get everyone to cut back their carbon footprint,” said Liza Morales-Crespo, Chief Executive Officer of Philippine Geogreen.

Philippine Geogreen, Inc. was established to address the need for sustainable and environmentally responsible building products in the country. It is the authorized Philippine distributor for some of the best energy saving fixtures in the U.S., including Solatube Daylighting Systems, Big Ass Fans, Topps Products and Solar technologies, as well as many industrial innovations that promote environmental sustainability. Its clients include top Filipino and multinational firms and organizations in the country.

The Newest Japanese Dessert Shari Shari Kakigori House is now in the Phillipines

Finally, Filipinos can now taste and enjoy Japan's authentic Japanese shaved ice desserts. Shari Shari Kakigori House finally will open its first store in Serendra, Fort Bonifacio Global City.

Much like outlets in Hong Kong, the Serendra branch has everything that has made Shari Shari Kakigori a favorite among those with a sweet tooth. Dessert lovers have another sweet reason to rejoice.

Gather your friends and family and be the first among others who's craving for this unique dessert.  Heads up to Shari Shari and Beat the summer heat and refresh your day with an awesome selection of flavors. Each shaved ice dessert is paired with a signature syrup and matching topping or powder to complete your cool Japanese dessert experience! You can put your own twist to it by adding your favorite toppings: ice cream, shiratama, cookies, cream, red bean, chocolate sauce, different powders, and kuromitsu!

Massive servings
Get ready for a huge serving of the yummiest kakigori you’ll ever find! In fact, the servings here in the Philippines are much bigger than the ones in Hong Kong, making it perfect for sharing. Bring along your friends so you could try its different flavors and share the icy concoctions among yourselves.

BEST. ICE. EVER.
Shari Shari Kakigori puts utmost importance in providing an unforgettable dessert experience, and that’s why their ice machine comes all the way from Japan. By marrying art and precision, Shari Shari Kakigori House produces the smoothest, fluffiest, and cloud-like ice that quickly melts in your mouth but doesn’t easily soften once served––way different than any icy dessert you’ve tried before!

Limited and seasonal flavors
With the promise to only serve the freshest flavors, Shari Shari constantly changes their menu according to what’s in season and incorporates it into their kakigori for that sweet Japanese twist. Make sure to visit as often you can so you can try all their flavors before some disappear!

Always picture perfect
Beyond being extra yummy, these iced concoctions make for Instagram-worthy posts. Get your friends drooling with great photos of these wonderful desserts.

Great for kids, too
Shari Shari isn’t only for adults looking for something sweet, but their desserts can be enjoyed by kids too. They also have cookies and cream creation called Black White Angel as well as classic and fruits flavors such as Tiramisu, Banana, and even Mango!

Japanese Tofu Kakigori
This uniquely Japanese flavor has people lining up for it! It is made from Japanese Tofu and sugar, producing a subtle sweetness and strong soybean flavor. It is topped with Mikan orange to give you that sour kick but still goes perfectly with the tofu.

Matcha!
If matcha is your thing, you’ll rave over the Matcha Cream Special, with its delightful combination of shaved ice, matcha cream, kuromitsu, whipped cream, and cookies! Their matcha is sourced and flown in from Japan, which ensures the use of high quality, authentic matcha powder. You can even choose if you want it with chocolate! No wonder this is one of their bestsellers!

Sauces to die for!
All their sauces are made fresh daily and we mean all of them. All kakigori choices on the menu have different sauces in them, so don’t hesitate to try more than one!

Locally exclusive kakigori
Shari Shari will be serving Melon Kakigori–which will only be available in the Philippines–with melons from local farms to ensure a sweet, juicy, and flavorful dessert.

Whether it's ice cream, smoothies or any other desserts I'm choosing the flavors with fruit content. So immediately I order the Cantaloupe Melon - (Melon syrup, whipped cream & melon toppings) and excited to know what's it's going to taste like. I get the 1 serving for sharing and get my stomach full already. The overall taste is good but I expect its sweeter or maybe just because it's blended with whipped cream and shave ice that makes it bland. Hopefully, they could add some sweetener for some customers that preferred more sweeter in their taste buds.

Second, I ordered the Strawberry Special - (Strawberry milk syrup, whipped cream & strawberry toppings) this time it's more sweetier compare to Melon so I enjoy it so much and finished the whole serving.

Picturing Marawi Photo Exhibit in select Sm Malls

June 06, 2019 @ Atrium Sm MegaMall - SM's Picturing Marawi Photo Exhibit formally inaugurated
featuring the heart-tugging photos of the Marawi siege aftermath immortalized by former journalist Mylah Reyes Roque from June 3 to August 31 in select SM malls.

Revisit the tragic backstory of the Maranaos a horrifying event that may never forget and marks to the history of the Philippines. We just heard and little saw on television some of the footage to what happens in the entire city of Marawi.

This is everybody's chance to take a look at never seen photos before taken during the battle between the forces of government against the rebel terrorist Maute group. Devastating results from a continous offensive strike of the military can be seen from the infrastructure that is left behind.

"The exhibit memorializes the tragedy in Marawi with the aim to engage mallgoers and help them have a greater understanding of the conflict," said Jonjon San Agustin, SM Supermalls senior vice president for marketing.

Picturing Marawi narrates the aftermath of human conflict through images of buildings, homes, and mosques that are deserted by the war but nevertheless speak of the community that used to make it alive. These are stories of a siege fought in close quarters.

The Marawi siege was an armed conflict that took place in Marawi, Lanao del Sur - a city filled with pulsating energy that was silenced by war. The battle started on the 23rd of May 2017 and lasted for five months -leaving the city in ruins and ending the lives of many Filipinos.

Catch the photo exhibit in the following SM malls: Megamall (June 3 to June 11), Southmall (June 24 to 29), Sucat (July 22 to 28), Rosario (August 5 to 11), and Telabastagan (August 25 to 31). This endeavour is in partnership with National Museum.
